Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year Award Nominations Open for 2026

The search is on for the next outstanding leader in New Zealand’s dairy sector, with Dairy Women’s Network (DWN) calling for nominations and applications for the 2026 Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year Award.

The award recognises women who are not only making a difference on their farms, in their businesses, or in their communities, but who are also inspiring others to lead, connect, and contribute to a better future for the dairy sector. For many recipients it is about more than recognition, it enables new opportunities, connections, and growth.

For 2024 recipient, Katrina Roberts, her nomination led to an experience she describes as life-changing, opening doors he never imagined.

“If you’d told me 25 years ago that I would enjoy social science research, I would have laughed in your face,” Katrina reflects. “But here I am, a graduate of the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, where I was pushed to think differently, connect more deeply, and realise the power of working together across our sector.”

But none of this would have been possible without a simple act: someone nominating her.

“Without that nomination, I wouldn’t have found my way into Kellogg, and I wouldn’t have experienced the growth and inspiration of the past year. It really did change my life.”

2025 recipient, Jo Sheridan, agrees that the recognition goes far beyond the title itself. For her, being named Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year has been both humbling and energising.

“When you look around the room at all the wonderful women who have come before you, it’s quite humbling,” Jo says. “To see the calibre of people that contribute to our industry, I feel privileged to be part of the group now and represent all the women doing wonderful things across our industry. The best part is realising the connections and the people who have influenced your journey — and having them there to celebrate with you.”

Looking ahead, Jo says she’s excited about the opportunities the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme offers.

“I’m really looking forward to stepping into Kellogg. It’s an opportunity to grow, to develop new skills and networks, and to challenge myself to think bigger. It’s a bit daunting, but mostly it’s exciting — I want to continue contributing in ways that help our sector evolve, create value, and build sustainability.”

DWN Trustee and Lead Judge Jenna Smith says the award continues to showcase the incredible women driving progress and connection in New Zealand’s dairy industry.

“Each year, the Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year reminds us of the power of connection and courage in leadership,” says Smith. “What stands out most is not just the individual success of our nominees, but the collective impact they have across their communities and the wider sector. These women are creating momentum for change, often quietly, but always purposefully, and that’s what makes this award so special.”

Anne Douglas, Group Director of Fonterra Farm Source, says she’s looking forward to seeing the calibre of nominees this year.

“Fonterra is proud to have sponsored this award since its inception. We’re always blown away by the inspiring stories that emerge through the nomination process, and I’m sure this year will be no different,” says Douglas.

If you or a woman you know has commitment, drive, passion, and is making a difference in the dairy sector, apply or nominate her for the Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year award.

The 2026 recipient will receive a scholarship to the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, which includes the programme fee, travel, and accommodation, mentoring and access to DWN and Fonterra platforms to share their research.

Nominations are now open and close on 28 February 2026.
