The Importance of BVD and How to Protect Your Herd

Bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) is a serious and widespread viral disease in New Zealand, around 80% of New Zealand’s dairy and beef herds have been exposed to BVD and estimates put the annual losses for dairy farmers at around $127 million, with losses of $70,000 annually for each average sized infected herd ($110-180 per cow) (Dairy NZ).

This webinar will provide an overview of the disease and the prevalence within the New Zealand, as well as providing insights into best on farm management practices to help protect your herd from BVD as well as practical advice on how to manage a BVD incursion should this become an issue.

LIC have been helping farmers to manage BVD on farm via testing for over 12 years. Dave Dymock (LIC Veterinarian) will show how different test types can be included as part of an overall BVD on farm management plan.

Katherine McNamara (Diagnostics Business Manager), will provide insights into the disease itself, as well as an overview of LIC’s role they intend to play within the control of BVD within NZ.
