Masks On. Toxins Gone.
Beneath the daily routine of farming, there’s a growing concern – exposure to herbicides and pesticides is linked to Parkinson’s, a progressive neurological disorder that’s the second most common after Alzheimer’s and the fastest-growing worldwide.
Studies worldwide have shown that chemicals like paraquat, heptachlor, and rotenone – commonly used in agriculture – can increase Parkinson’s risk by up to 200 – 600%, depending on exposure levels. This risk extends beyond farmers to those also living near application areas.
Hear from Dr Daniel McGowan, CEO of Cure Parkinson’s NZ as he shares practical steps farmers can take, such as using protective gear, opting for safer alternatives, and monitoring symptoms like tremors or loss of smell for early diagnosis.
Through this webinar you will:
- Discover the connection between long-term exposure to agricultural chemicals and the increased risk of developing Parkinson’s Disease.
- Recognise common herbicides and pesticides associated with elevated Parkinson’s risk.
- Identify the early warning signs of Parkinson’s Disease such as tremors, loss of smells, or changes in coordination, and understanding the importance of an early diagnosis.
- Learn simple, effective actions farms and rural workers can take to reduce exposure risk, including protective gear and safer chemical alternatives.
- Feel empowered to share key messages with whānau, friends, and colleagues to raise awareness and promote safer farming practices.
- Reflect on the long-term health implications for current and future generations within the farming community and why proactive steps matter now.
Together, we can tackle this for our rural communities!
