Melissa Munnik

Southland Hub Leader

Hi I’m Melissa and I am farming with my husband in Southland, and we have 3 adult daughters, 1 farming in Southland and 2 living elsewhere in NZ.   We have been down here for 13 years, previously from Cambridge in the Waikato.  I am full time on the farm during calving and mating and then milk over weekends when staff are having time off.  Watching our calves grow into ICH has become a real interest of mine, and there is nothing nicer than seeing them come home to enter the herd, making the hundreds of hours you have put in feeding them very satisfying.

I am a great believer in being true to yourself and making sure you take time out to enjoy the things that make you tick, so when I am not farming I love nothing better than catching up with family, socializing and the odd spot of shopping.

Being part of the DWN Tribe has been immensely valuable.  As a Beauty Therapist in my previous life, I knew very little about farming and through attending many DWN Modules, Conference and connecting with other amazing Farming Women it has given me the confidence required to run a successful farming business.
