Celebrate the Leaders Shaping our Future

Inspired by the journey of the 2024 recipient, Katrina Roberts

The search is on for the next outstanding leader in New Zealand’s dairy sector, with nominations and applications now open for the 2026 Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year Award. This prestigious award, presented in partnership with Dairy Women’s Network (DWN), recognises women who are not only making a difference on their farms, in their businesses, or in their communities, but who are also inspiring others to lead, connect, and contribute to a better future for the dairy sector.

For many, entering the awards is a life-changing opportunity – just ask Katrina Roberts. When Katrina was named the 2024 Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year, she never imagined the doors that it would open. What began as recognition of her contribution to the dairy sector quickly became a year of transformation.

“If you’d told me 25 years ago that I would enjoy social science research, I would have laughed in your face,” Katrina says. “Here I am, a graduate of the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, where I was pushed to think differently, connect more deeply, and realise the power of working together across our sector.”

For Katrina, Kellogg was more than just a programme — it was a chance to grow. It reinforced her values, her sense of purpose, and her belief in the power of people. “Kellogg has helped reinforce my why. It reminded me that knowing my values and purpose and sticking to them, that people need people, and that when we share openly, across industries and ideas, we all move forward.”

But none of this would have been possible without a simple act: someone nominating her.

“Without that nomination, I wouldn’t have found my way into Kellogg, and I wouldn’t have experienced the growth and inspiration of the past year. It really did change my life,” Katrina reflects. This was the start of her next chapter.

Now it’s your turn

The Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year Award isn’t just about recognition. It enables new opportunities, connections, growth, and creates change across our communities and our sector. If Katrina’s story shows anything, it’s how powerful one nomination can be – not just for the woman who receives it, but for everyone she connects with throughout her journey.

It’s time to ask yourself: who will write their next chapter in 2026?

If you or a woman you know has commitment, drive, passion, and is making a difference in the dairy sector, apply or nominate her for the Fonterra Dairy Woman of the Year award. Your nomination could be the spark that takes her on a journey she never expected.
