As I reflect on another year at Dairy Women’s Network (DWN), I am reminded that the strength of our organisation has always been its people. From the women who attend their first event to those who have been involved for many years, it is the connections we create, the knowledge we share and the support we offer one another that continue to make DWN such a valued part of our dairy industry.
This year has once again demonstrated the breadth and importance of the work we do. Our annual conference in Christchurch was a wonderful success, bringing women together from across the country to learn, connect, be inspired and celebrate their contribution to our industry. Alongside conference, our regional events and workshops have continued to provide opportunities for women to develop both personally and professionally. From practical on-farm business knowledge and skills through to personal health and wellbeing, our programmes recognise that women in our industry wear many hats, and that supporting them means looking beyond the farm gate as well as within it.
This year also marked the conclusion of our formal Business Groups programme. Over the years, these groups have provided valuable opportunities for women to share experiences, build confidence, develop their businesses and establish meaningful connections. It is particularly pleasing to see many of these groups choosing to continue independently, a reflection of the relationships and networks that have been built. While the formal programme has finished, its impact continues through the women who remain connected, supporting and learning from one another.
Dairy Women’s Network continues to be in a sound financial position, with total revenue increasing to $1.52 million for the year ended 31 May 2026. We achieved a modest surplus of $21,676, strengthening our equity position to $634,465. As a not-for-profit organisation, our focus remains on balancing financial sustainability with delivering meaningful value to the women and communities we serve. This result reflects the careful management of our resources, the commitment of our team and the ongoing support of our partners. Our financial foundation gives us confidence as we look ahead, while recognising the importance of remaining adaptable and responsible in how we invest in our future.
I would like to sincerely thank our staff, led by our CEO, Jules. Behind every event, workshop, partnership and connection is a tremendous amount of work, much of which happens quietly behind the scenes. Our team brings dedication, creativity and genuine care to what they do, often going above and beyond to ensure our members have positive and valuable experiences. On behalf of the Board, thank you for the energy, professionalism and heart you bring to DWN.
Equally important are our incredible volunteers. Across New Zealand, our regional and hub leaders, and many others generously give their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to connect and support women in their communities. You are often the first friendly face someone encounters when they become involved with DWN, and you help create the welcoming and supportive environment that makes our organisation special. Your contribution cannot be measured simply in hours volunteered. It is reflected in the confidence gained, friendships formed and opportunities created for others. Thank you for everything you do.
I also want to acknowledge our valued partners and supporters. Your belief in the importance of women within the dairy industry, and your willingness to invest in their development, enables us to deliver opportunities that would otherwise not be possible. We greatly value these relationships and the shared commitment to building a strong, connected and thriving dairy sector.
This year we also farewell Trustee Jess, who has chosen not to seek reappointment after three years on the Board. Jess’s contribution to DWN extends well beyond her time as a Trustee. From her involvement as a regional leader, hub leader and business group leader, through to Associate Trustee and ultimately Trustee, Jess has given generously of her time, experience and energy to our organisation. Her journey reflects the leadership opportunities DWN seeks to create for women, and we have been fortunate to benefit from her commitment at so many levels. Jess, thank you for your thoughtful contribution around the Board table, your willingness to step forward and the genuine care you have shown for DWN and the women it represents. We wish you every success in what comes next and know you will always remain part of the DWN community.
I would also like to thank my fellow Trustees for their commitment, insight and support throughout the year. Good governance is a collective responsibility, and I appreciate the different perspectives, experience and thoughtful discussions each of you brings to our Board.
Looking ahead, the environment in which our farmers, families and rural communities operate will continue to evolve. With change comes both challenges and opportunities, and I believe the role of DWN in bringing women together, building confidence and encouraging leadership remains as relevant as ever. We look forward to continuing to foster connection, empowerment and achievement for women both on and off farm, ensuring they have the networks, knowledge and encouragement to thrive, whatever the future may bring.
To everyone who has been part of DWN this year, whether as a member, volunteer, partner, staff member or supporter, thank you. It is your collective contribution that makes this organisation what it is, and I am proud of what we continue to achieve together.
