Heat Stress
Dairy cows in all areas of New Zealand are affected by heat stress during summer.
Heat stress occurs when an animal’s heat load is greater than its capacity to lose heat. The comfort zone for a cow is 4-20°C, much lower than the comfort zone of a human. Cows sometimes do strange things when they’re dealing with heat. Watch the video below or take a look at the Heat Stress infographic that DairyNZ have created to find out more.
