3 weeks of constant rain āļø. Paddocks are soaked and muddy. We have had our
Oh man calving has hit us early, hard and fast š„“. 60 cows/heifers in already and 18 beautiful keepers š„°. We had a hard first season last year with a tonne of down cows – costing us a fortune! So this year we are trying some different things to see if we can get it under control! We are finishing off some fencing down the back of the farm also.
You just never know how your day is going to go until you get out on the farm in the morning. We did an 8am till 2pm shift the other day nonstop. 10 calves on the ground, a cow who had had a tough birth while chasing heifers that decide to come out of the paddock just to jump straight over the race fence to join the springer mob š¤¦āāļø All this while trying to feed calves, kids, dogs, cat, cows and then ourselves – the workers šĀ
We are sending milk though which is exciting and our first lot of colostrum got picked up today! Giving colostrum a go this year.
The Stalosan from AgriVantage seems to be working a treat. Still have nice dry pens which are extremely clean.. I think the dog also visits the pens frequently too for some snacks š¤¢Ā
