    Download the software or the app to get started, and sign in. You can use your Facebook or Google account or create a new username and password. A basic account will let you host meetings up to 40 minutes, or different paid plans are available.

    To get started, click ‘meetings’ then ‘schedule a new meeting’.

    Fill in some basic details, then click ‘start this meeting’.

    Launch the Zoom software, and you’ll see the online session begin with your own video. If you don’t see your face, click ‘start video’ at the bottom of the screen.

    Click ‘new meeting’.

    To invite people to your meeting, click the ‘invite’ button. This will give you a web link to the meeting, which you’ll then need to share with the people you’re inviting.

    When the others click on the link, they’ll automatically join the session and you’ll all see each other.

    Pre-installed on Apple iPhones and iPads.

    Open the FaceTime app and sign in with your Apple ID, or go to ‘settings’ then ‘FaceTime’ to sign in.

    In the FaceTime app, tap the ‘+’ at the top. If a person is saved in your contacts, start typing their name and tap the name when it appears. If the person is not saved in your contacts, type in the phone number or email address connected to their Apple ID. Then tap ‘audio’ or ‘video’.

    You can also start a FaceTime video call from your phone during a phone call. Just tap the FaceTime icon in the phone app to switch.

    FaceTime needs a mobile or Wi-Fi connection to work.

    Make a Houseparty account using your name, a personal username, your email and your mobile phone number. This will be used to confirm your account with a four-digit, one-time use confirmation code.

    Allow Houseparty to access your contacts and your Facebook friends, this will let you video chat with anyone you know who also has Houseparty installed.

    You’ll be able to see your friends on the app and tap the phone icon next to their name to start a call. Use the search bar to find any of your contacts and add them to party. Houseparty has a maximum of 8 people in a group chat at a time.

    Houseparty has an in-call game feature. Tap the dice icon in the top right corner of the screen to bring up a list of games you can play within your call.
