Retention of staff is a significant issue for dairy farms in New Zealand. The cost of turnover is high and includes lost productivity, training, time involved in recruiting and inducting a new staff member, as well as all the risks of recruiting a new person into your business. It is estimated that the cost of replacing someone in your business is one and a half times their salary as a minimum! Retaining the people you want to retain in your business is a skill.
This webinar will provide some insights and ideas about the key things you and your business can do to improve your ability to keep the people you want to keep in your business, which will in turn increase your business productivity and efficiency and reduce the ‘hassle factor’ that having to replace staff presents.
Four key factors to retention will be explored:
- Culture and values – creating a work environment that the right people want to be a part of.
- Clarity of role and responsibilities – setting clear expectations so the right people know the right things to do and are free to enjoy doing them.
- Personal development – addressing the all important question ‘what’s in it for me?’ which is the main motivator that pushes people into ‘looking zone’.
- Relationships – how you can build relationships that help you understand what your people need and want so you can rigorously help them achieve their goals in your business rather than someone else’s.
At the end of this webinar you will have been introduced to four key concepts that encourage people to stay in a business. Ideas for practical implementation will be presented and you will have some first steps and first questions to take away and start thinking about for you and your business.
